According to a recent report in Small Business Review, a growing segment of the small business market is home-based businesses. In fact, a record number of new people are entering into the home-based business marketplace every year. With several major US Corporations announcing layoffs already this year, there is a good chance that trend will continue. According to the same report, the advent of low cost technology such as affordable computers, excellent printers and low telephone charges, combined with low start up costs and limited overhead, means home-based businesses will continue to proliferate in the future.
There is a plethora of home-based business opportunity. From web designing and online marketing, to arts and crafts and day care services, there are hundreds of job prospects for the home-based entrepreneur. The U.S. trends of downsizing and re-engineering are clearly extending into international markets. As a result, people laid off from middle and upper management positions find themselves with severance packages and a desire to run their own business.
